Biology Enzymes

Biology EnzymesWhat exactly is biology enzymes? What makes them so powerful and what uses do they hold in medicine and science? You probably have never even heard of biology enzymes, but they are a key component of your body.Liver enzymes are particularly important for the process of detoxification, which is required for detoxification of your body. Think about it, when you go to the doctor for a checkup, he or she will put some kind of an antidote into your system to make sure you are being healthy. We've all seen the pictures of detox kits at health food stores. These kits usually include anti-inflammatory drugs, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen, and caffeine to help speed up the process of your detoxification. You will also find liver enzymes included in these kits.Your liver is a network of organs inside your body that your kidneys control and most people assume that enzymes are involved with this, but enzymes actually do a lot more than make sure your kidneys function properly . One of the organs in your body that serves as an outlet for toxins is your liver. A good way to think of your liver is that it is like your body's garbage can. As you would imagine, your liver can hold a lot of toxins and waste. The point is that while you are in this great big garbage can, what will it be doing? It will be dumping off excess toxins into your bloodstream where they will gather in your muscles, joints, and blood vessels. When your body can't handle the toxins anymore, it will pass them out to other parts of your body. The other problem with the liver is that it gets so congested with waste that it becomes unable to eliminate any toxins whatsoever. This is called liver failure. Now, enzymes are needed for your liver. They help your liver to pump out toxins that have been accumulated in your system, which gives you an opportunity to get rid of the toxins in your system and keep them from accumulating again. They also help eliminate toxins from your blood stream, and th ey are especially important when it comes to the disposal of excess fat, which is a major source of waste for your liver. These enzymes are a critical component of your body's detoxification process.Your kidneys, pancreas, and other organs need to produce enzymes in order to metabolize food, water, and electrolytes into energy for your body. In doing so, enzymes make it easier for your body to use these sources of energy. So you can see that enzymes play a vital role in your body's survival and functioning. They are also necessary to help regulate your blood pressure and help keep you healthy, all of which is why you may have heard of the importance of biology enzymes.Once you have used a supplement that contains enzymes, you will want to continue to monitor your progress to ensure that you are still getting the maximum benefit from your supplement. Make sure that you continue to monitor your progress using various tests as well as your own self assessments.

What really matters for the March SAT

What really matters for the March SAT The countdown is on: What really matters for the March SAT The countdown is on: What really matters for the March SAT For the past year students, educators, and parents have been wondering what will happen when the redesigned SAT is introduced in March 2016. March is finally just around the corner and students’ questions and concerns are now a reality. Unfortunately, there will be one class of students who will essentially serve as guinea pigs to see how the new test is will work and help the College Board produce a new “average” score. This is likely extremely overwhelming for students applying to college and can produce more anxiety than is necessary. There are a few things students should consider to find out what truly matters for this new SAT. 1. Scoring Guidelines Many students have mentioned their concern over the new scoring guidelines. As of January 2016 a perfect score on the SAT is 2400. In March, a perfect score will be 1600. So will colleges think that a student didnt do as well because they can now only score 1600? Absolutely not. Up until 2005, the top score was 1600 and colleges have been used to judging students on the scale for decades. Students should not concern themselves with the new scoring guidelines in general but rather think about where they will fit as compared to their peers. 2. Obscure Vocabulary Do you know what an iconoclast is? Perhaps not, but I bet you are familiar with the words rebel and critic. Students of generations past have spent hours upon hours flipping through flash card of overly complicated words that they perhaps will never use again.  Although some vocabulary words on the exam where useful and used in academia and in life, most of them belong to a category dubbed “SAT words”. On the new SAT students wont have to spend quite so much time memorizing words but they will still need to learn words in context. This is a good news/bad news situation for many students. The good news is that the obscure vocabulary is a thing of the past. The bad news is that students who think they get a free pass to skip vocab study will probably have quite a surprise on test day. Learning vocabulary in context is complicated and important and deserves plenty of attention (READ: 8 SAT Essay Tips from a Private Irvine SAT Tutor). 3. Guessing This is one of the coolest changes of the redesigned SAT. How many times did students sit down with their tutor and try and figure out exactly when they should guess on a question and when they should skip it? What if they can eliminate two answers? What if they have it down to two but theyre just not sure? This took up a lot of time during test prep and a lot of time on the actual test. Starting in March students will be able to go ahead and take a guess if theyre unsure of an answer. This is really good news for students who often just barely picked the wrong answers and became very frustrated. Now that students wont be penalized for guessing its important that they adjust their test prep study to align with this new strategy. 4. The essay is optional so I dont have to do it, right? On the Redesigned SAT the essay will be optional and separate from the writing section. Students across the country are now jumping for joy thinking they dont have to practice writing or spend any time on it on exam day. Just because something is optional on the SAT doesn’t mean that universities count it as optional. Before students skip over their essay prep its essential they research the websites of any and all colleges they wish to apply to and see if the essay is required for admission (READ: 5 Awesome SAT Apps). 5. So does this mean the new SAT is easier? Many students think that perhaps the new SAT will be easier. Although for some, this may be the case, for most it will still be extremely challenging. Students will still be tested on their math and English skills, they will still need to focus their concentration for several hours, they will still need to know vocabulary, mathematical formulas, and be able to analyze text quickly and effectively.  Additionally, students taking the essay portion will need to be able to thoroughly analyze a passage and respond to it with thought and depth. The Redesigned SAT is no joke and students are encouraged to prep as far in advance as possible. In fact, students taking the exam in March should probably have already commenced their studies. Reasons for the Popularity of Online Tutoring

Reasons for the Popularity of Online Tutoring Though the education system produces many great young talents, it is undeniable that the system is highly demanding and its all about producing a generation of “21st century competencies”. Unfortunately, many students find this to be stressful and because of this competitive nature and restrictive space, education is no longer as enjoyable as it used to be. The bitter truth is that children are compelled to bite off more than they can chew. The kind of education provided is of high quality but the pace and the rigour are too challenging for students in general. Above all this, the academically weaker students may feel like they are lagging behind and a feeling of helplessness will start shrouding them.   Many students seek external help as what is being done in schools seems insufficient; this is probably one of the predominant reasons for the boom in the tuition industry. Tuition teachers in general work tirelessly to guide students in as many ways as possible because they are aware of how education system is evolving and how the corporate landscape is making a huge transition rapidly. To be more specific, online tuition is gaining popularity and significance over the past five years or so, now that everyone owes digital devices and can access internet easily at any time of the day.   There are a few reasons why online tuition has gained popularity and it is an option that many students are looking towards in order to improve their grades.   #1: INTERESTING LESSONS The traditional way of learning as we all know is sitting in a classroom among forty other students and this has become somewhat boring and it is the usual. Students long for more interesting ways of learning and this is what will spark their interest and keep them motivated.   There is often a lack of a conducive environment for interesting and engaging lessons inn general and hence it’s probably the reason why many students underperform; which is not a justification for their capacity and capability. Online learning is certainly much different from that of traditional classroom learning where there is no teacher who is physically present to teach. This encourages independent learning as well and hence it is something that many parents seem to prefer.   #2: RESOURCES Books teach us a lot but when it comes to the online platform, there is easy accessibility and lots of time gets saved since information can be retrieved from the internet very quickly. Outside of class, students watch videos and other online materials which give detailed explanations of abstract concepts which is something like how a teacher would explain during a lecture or a tutor during tuition sessions. With online tuition, tutors on the other end can share lots of online resources related to the topic or concept being taught and this is much more convenient and effective as compared to printing and distributing physical copies. Online quizzes and tests are great ways in which online tutors can gauge student’s understanding as well. #3: A CHANGE There’s a lot to learn and one can never be done with learning. The online learning space creates the opportunity to explore and identify what one’s strengths and weaknesses and learning gaps. One should gain knowledge in different ways and not just by underlining keywords in lecture notes or by blindly completing assessment books or mock papers without truly understanding what the concepts are all about or what questions demand from candidates. The online platform is a good opportunity to widen one’s horizon and take a look beyond textbooks.   #4: PERSONALISED APPROACH Teaching a large group of students, as compared to tutoring one child is at either ends of the spectrum. Tutoring one student requires the tutor to study, analyse and comprehend the student’s learning pace, learning capacity, and the areas of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, etc. All this analysation then translates into a more customised teaching which will help the student to excel easily.   Every student is unique in his or her own way; some students grasp concepts quickly while others lag behind and require extra coaching and visual representations for them to comprehend those same concepts. Through online tuition, tutors can teach accordingly to fulfill their student’s unique learning needs.   #5: CONVENIENCE This can be done from the comfort of one’s own home and this is one of the key reasons why online tuition has gained in prominence. Students are always on a tight schedule running from one commitment to another and there is a lot of travelling time that goes to waste and it causes students to lack rest and sleep. By opting for online tuition, a lot of time and energy can be saved, and the best part it is that most students regard online tuition as equally as effective as private tuition or group tuition. BOTTOM LINE This method teaching has numerous benefits, especially so, since it is beneficial because it adapts to the changing times. Technology is growing in prominence every day and its crucial for the education system to evolve and adapt.

How to Amaze Natives with Your Foreign Language Pronunciation

How to Amaze Natives with Your Foreign Language Pronunciation Conquer Foreign Language Pronunciation and Speak Like a Native I would like a sheet of paper, says the man. His accent is unmistakably foreign.Excuse me? asks the woman behind the desk who sounds like someone has just insulted her mother.I need a sheet of paper. To write on, the man repeats, adding clarification and hand gestures.Oh! A SHEET of paper. Here you are.Sheet is just one of those words that sounds too close to a vulgarism. Its simply too easy for non-native speakers to mispronounce the  ee sound as an  i sound as in the word hit, or something close to that anyways.Of course, after all is said and done the native speaker will probably find the whole situation amusing, but for the non-native speaker this sort of situation can be incredibly embarrassing. This may be an extreme example, we probably dont all go around worrying about accidentally swearing out our conversation partner, but the fear of embarrassment when speaking a foreign language is one of the critical factors that can really hold you back from learning.Want to speak like a native? Youve got to make mistake after mistake and have someone correct you. For many people, this level of constant criticism can be really intimidating.Thankfully there are some things that you can do to bolster your confidence that go a long way. If you do these things, youll feel more comfortable having a conversation, knowing that even if youre making mistakes youre still able to make yourself clearly understood. Conquer Foreign Language Pronunciation and Speak Like a NativeHere well focus on pronunciation since this is key to conversational speech. How do you know what youre actually  saying is what you think youre saying? The only way to be sure is to have excellent pronunciation.Even if youre far, far away from having a detailed knowledge of the language, a good accent can catch other people off guard. When people start telling you that think youre a native Spanish speaker, for example, youre going to have enough confidence to think of yourself as  the king of Spain. To ge t to this level, here are the steps you should start taking today.1. To speak, you must first learn to listen. As children, we spend a lot of time just listening to adults speak. Over time, the sounds of our native language become ingrained in our own speech and we sound just like everyone else around us. And so naturally, when considering how to make successful  voyages through new languages,  its always best to start off with lots of listening to really capture the sounds well later have to utter in conversation. It doesnt matter if youre just starting out, if youre improving or if youre nearly fluent. Listening is key to speaking.Be sure to choose as many possible sources of audio as you can think of. There are all of the usual suspects available to you: television, movies, podcasts, news broadcasts, music, etc. However, even if you spend every waking moment listening to these things, all of that listening wont be worth a dime if youre not actively listening. To ensure you get in lo ts of good active listening practice, choose something thats at your level and that you can mostly understand without having to look up a ton of words. You should also try to find something that comes with a transcript where you can look up all the unknown words ahead of time or after listening. To compliment your extensive listening practice with various source materials, youll need some intensive practice to really hone in on the sounds youre hearing. The easiest way to do this is to work with minimal pairs.Minimal pairs are pairs of two words that sound the same except for one syllable. For instance, wine and vine. For many non-native English speakers, the v and w sounds can be difficult to differentiate. Its possible to find audio files for many such words where you only hear one of the two words and you have to guess which one it was. This is perfect to turn your blunt listening skills into a fine, precision instrument.2. Learn the International Phonetic Alphabet. So now youve go t the sounds down in your head. Time to start making those sounds yourself. But where to start? If youre completely new to a language, learning the International Phonetic Alphabet, or IPA, can go a long way to aiding your pronunciation. The IPA breaks down all of the sounds we humans can possibly make into the smallest possible units of sound, or phonemes. It also renders these phonemes into consistent spelling patterns. For instance, in English the ch  sound can be pronounced like a sh  sound as in parachute, a k  sound as in ache  or something else entirely as in the word loch.No writing systems that Im aware of match their spoken sounds to written characters perfectly. English is particularly bad in this respect. The IPA, however, simplifies this by using a different character for each particular sound. So, first things first. Get a list of all the IPA sounds in your target language and practice, practice, practice! Its fairly easy to find IPA charts that show words in English with similar phonemes to your target language. Its also possible to learn about how each sound is made according to how wide you open your mouth and how your tongue is positioned. This can be more helpful with sounds that have no close relative in the language or languages you already speak. To really nail the IPA and how its connected to your target language, make some flashcards. On one side have the IPA symbol for one phoneme and on the reverse side have whatever way that phoneme can be spelled in the writing system of the target language.3. Get your mouth moving.Once youve mastered the phonemes of your target language, its time to take a step up. Obviously the next part of the journey is to start saying words and sentences. A lot of this is just going to be repetition until your mouth is comfortable saying common words in your target language. But thats the old fashioned way, you might say. Surely, theres something I can do to learn faster. While nothing can entirely replace talking en ough to get used to new sounds, there certainly are some tricks you can use to enhance your performance.Remember those minimal pairs we were talking about earlier? Well now its time to reverse the game. Make pairs of words that sound similar except for one sound and grab someone who speaks your target language. Show them the two words you have and then say only one of them, having them point to the one they think you said. If they can pick the right word every time then you know that youre comprehensible at the very least.Other classic tricks include learning to sing songs in your target language and using tongue twisters, both of which are good tools to have in your arsenal. One more should be added though: shadowing.Shadowing is about listening to a sentence, or some longer chunk of dialogue, and then repeating it back. Why is this helpful? In all of the above techniques, we were just focusing on single word pronunciation. Shadowing will improve your rhythm and intonation. This isn t just about sounding good, its about grammar. The way we raise and lower our voices conveys important information to our listeners, like when intonation rises at the end of a question.4. Catch your mistakes.Youve probably heard it a million times by now, but its true. You cant learn if you dont make mistakes. But you also cant learn if you dont know what your mistakes are.The least cumbersome way to go about this is to record yourself speaking. Have you ever listened to your own voicemail message only to realize it sounds nothing like what you thought you sound like? The same will be true in a foreign language where youre probably making mistakes you dont even realize. But if you catch them on a recording, youll have better luck catching them when youre actually speaking. If you really want to improve, though,  youre going to need a language partner. Language partners are critical for getting good at pronunciation. Whether its a teacher, your best friend or someone you found online, having a native speaker correct your pronunciation will rocket you to previously unknown levels of tongue twister success. Scientific studies have even verified how effective immediate error correction from a native speaker can be compared to traditional listening techniques.5. Become culturally refined.Read novels set in the land of your target language. Watch movies about foreign romances in whatever part of the world speaks the language. Brush up on your history of the appropriate country or countries. Do anything which will give you a better cultural understanding. How can this possibly help with my pronunciation? you might ask. But research has shown that students with the greatest sensitivity to the culture they were studying were also the ones best able to achieve high levels of pronunciation. It shouldnt be too surprising that our cultural identity is deeply intertwined with how well we speak. After all, if you think the French are all snobs youll probably have no interest i n sounding like they do, even if you can mechanically memorize French grammar and words. But with any luck, youre studying a language you love and youll be able to blow through these steps thanks to your undying motivation. After youve finished with all this great practice, youll be sure to have the confidence you need to speak to anyone and know youre saying what you think youre sayingat least 99% of the time.

A Student Review of Pennsylvania State University

A Student Review of Pennsylvania State University Rebecca earned her bachelors degree in advertising from Pennsylvania State University. She specializes in Spanish tutoring, AP European history tutoring, and a number of other subjects. Below, she shares her experience at Pennsylvania State University: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. Rebecca: Penn State is located in State College, PA. Its a rural setting, but it almost feels like a small city. The campus is very large, but seamlessly blends into the downtown. The two seem very integrated. I felt extremely safe at all hours of the day and night. The public bus transportation is great for the most part. A car may be needed for grocery shopping off campus, but its not necessary because the bus line does run there. A bike can be useful, too, if you live far off campus and need to get to class quickly. How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Rebecca: I found the staff was very welcoming, helpful, and available as long as you were willing to put the time and effort into classes and your academic schedule. I met with countless professors to go over materials for class, worked with TAs to understand topics in larger classrooms, and worked with my academic adviser every semester to set myself up for success throughout my college career. How would you describe the dorm liferooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Rebecca: The dorms were typical of any campus: clean and average sized. I was in an all-freshman dorm, but some of my friends were in mixed grade level dorms. The dining options are excellent and have all types of cuisines, as well as the choice to dine in a hall or to take it with you. I was able to make a large assortment of friends on my dorm floor and building as a whole. We remained close throughout my college career. Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? Rebecca: Since the school is so massive, there are a large number of programs and schools of study to choose from. Penn State has an excellent law program, communication school, engineering program, and a well-known business school. I studied advertising in the College of Communications because I wanted to work as a creative or account executive at an agency. There were a lot of career and internship, as well as networking, opportunities within my college. How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Rebecca: The majority of my friends as a freshman were from my dorm, classes, or clubs I joined. As a second-semester freshman, I joined a sorority and met more individuals through that. Greek life is significant at Penn State, but one can choose not to be in Greek life and still have a thriving social life through different organizations or groups of friends. How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services? Rebecca: The Career Center was very helpful. They had resume workshops, a database full of job listings, and rooms available for interviews by phone or Skype. Many reputable companies recruited at our many job fairs throughout the year. How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Rebecca: Since Penn State has such a large campus, its easy to find a study space that works for you. We have various libraries, as well as lounges or quiet corners around campus to study by yourself or meet with a group regarding a project. Describe the surrounding town. Rebecca: Despite the fact that Penn State is located in rural PA, the town of State College is thriving. Downtown, there are a large number of restaurants and cafes that cater to both students and locals. The downtown is also home to boutiques, shops, larger chain stores, and a local theater. One can always find something to do downtown. If one is looking for more things to do off-campus, there are more restaurants, shops, chain stores, bowling alleys, movie theaters, and large grocery stores. The campus and downtown are very close to each other, so students can easily access downtown amenities or go off-campus by a bus or walking. How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Rebecca: The student body is quite big. The undergrad population is near 40,000. I loved having a large student body. There was so much to get involved in; you could always meet new people and everyone had so much school pride. Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Rebecca: I took a sociology course that I heard was popular my senior year. The professor was kind of crazy, but made the experience extremely memorable. He was very hands-on and made the entire class of 700 people take part in hands-on activities. He also brought up and discussed many topics that are considered taboo or politically incorrect in todays society. Whether or not you agree with what he said, I guarantee that you will leave class mind-blown. Check out Rebeccas tutoring profile.
